Why are cake smashes so popular for first birthdays? ![]()
I was told the idea originated from the USA when babies had their very first taste of sugar, but after a bit of googling there might be a different theory!
Some say the tradition of cake smashing started in Mexico! They celebrate what is called a “Mordida”. This tradition, on the babies first birthday, involves shoving the face into the cake and singing
MORDIDA! MORDIDA! MORDIDA!![]()
The meaning of Mordida is, ‘bite’ in Spanish. Has this evolved into what we see today? Who knows!
What I do know is they are so much fun! If your baby has a first birthday in 2023, drop me a line for some more info ![]()
