Why are cake smashes so popular for first birthdays?
I was told the idea originated from the USA when babies had their very first taste of sugar, but after a bit of googling there might be a different theory!
Some say the tradition of cake smashing started in Mexico! They celebrate what is called a “Mordida”. This tradition, on the babies first birthday, involves shoving the face into the cake and singing MORDIDA! MORDIDA! MORDIDA!
The meaning of Mordida is, ‘bite’ in Spanish. Has this evolved into what we see today? Who knows!
What I do know is they are so much fun! If your baby has a first birthday in 2023, drop me a line for some more info
